Matthew 2:13-23, Planned Parenthood, and the Unspeakable Tragedy of Abortion.

An angel warned Joseph in a dream to take his family to Egypt (Matthew 2:13), so Joseph took his family to Egypt. Shortly after, Herod found out the wise men had ignored his command and blew up. He ordered all of the Jewish boys in Bethlehem and the surrounding area who were under two to be executed (Matthew 2:16). The response of the mothers and families was sorrow and sadness. They grieved, virtually inconsolable. Matthew views this as a fulfillment of Jeremiah’s prophecy in Jeremiah 31:15. ¬†Bottom line: the people in Israel were absolutely devastated and saddened by the destruction of young children.
As I read this passage, I could not help but think of the controversy surrounding Planned Parenthood and the selling of baby parts. I am not a huge political guy. I don’t get into many conversations or debates over politics…but I cannot remain silent about Planned Parenthood and the murder of unborn children. Like the mothers and families in the days of Herod, I am filled with grief over the lives of the unborn that are being snuffed out. How can our country allow this to happen? How can political leaders allow this to continue? We are murdering children and calling it “abortion.” We are sacrificing children on the altar of sexual freedom and calling it “pro-choice.” It is a terrible tragedy, and I pray with all my heart that it stops.
As Christians, we have a responsibility to protect life, especially the weak and defenseless. The unborn certainly fall under this category. So do all you can. Speak out. Vote. Pray. Give to pregnancy care centers. Let us support life as we follow the one who died so we can have eternal life!
